Etsy goodies

We have such a wealth of talented etsy sellers in Brisbane! I took advantage of the recent BrisStyle etsy sale and bought some lovelies!

HeyHarriet sent me out two sweet aceos - packaged so nicely with a cool card and Charlie Brown comic pics :)
This is the one I especially love "Red Wall Girl" - I'm still trying to figure out what she is feeling! Thanks Tracy!
Beckybean packaged up some great goodies for me too. I bought her lovely 'Witch Snippet' bag which is just lovely - yummy colours and fabrics.

Beckybean's package was full of extra goodies which warmed my heart and swelled my fabric stash a little more!

What was extra special was the bookmarks she made for my two little people. Thanks Bec!

Red Button Beauties!

I have a lovely friend who loves buying things for me, and I love making things for her.
Today I received another little goodies packet from her ...

These gorgeous RED buttons!! I love the colour and the different textures and materials - some are Bakelite and some are wood. They are on an old button card that says 'Fashion's Latest' and 'Made in Czechoslovakia', but I doubt any of them are the original ones that came with the card. They were found in one of the lovely vintage-selling shops in Eumundi on the Sunshine Coast (mental note: grab some pocket money and take a drive up to Eumundi soon!!).

I'm a lucky girl! I'm thinking of making maybe a bracelet out of the 6 flower-y ones. Hmmmm...
I told her, the next time she's out shopping, I'd like her to buy me some extra time so I can make things to my hearts content!! hee hee.
Thanks Kira :D

An Award, a Competition and some 'Prizes'

Firstly, an award; thank you, Rhonda from My Handbound Books, for the "Arte y pico" blog award! Rhonda makes some gorgeous books and is the organizer of our 'BEST' book swap every few months. It was lovely to receive the award from her.

This is the deal:
1) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for, creativity, design, interesting material, and also contributing to the blogger community, no matter what language.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3) Each award-winner, has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4) Award-winners and the one who has given the prize should to show the link to the Arte y pico blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5) To show these rules.

So, I'm passing along the award to:
~ Tracy of Hey Harriet for her great shots, interesting posts and funny poems!
~ Bec of The Small Stuff for her creativity and sense of humour
~ Robyn of Hot Fudge for her very funny and interesting posts
~ Sandra of bubble babble for her lovely, lovely images
~ Amanda of Twinkle Star Art for her gorgeous-kid drawings - so clever

Speaking of Twinkle Star Art (nice segue!), head on over to Amanda's blog to check out her little competition. One of her beautiful art images is up for grabs for one (very) lucky helper. Drop by her etsy store to see more of her work - I've got my eye on the little Parisian girls!

Now for my prizes! I went garage-saleing (sailing?!) yesterday and picked up some great prizes for me and my girl. First was this lovely old Singer (why do I need another sewing machine?) - still in working order, in it's beautiful case and accompanied by a big tin of goodies.

Second was a beautiful 'big girl's bed' for my little one when she's a little older. It is an antique cast iron beauty with a small canopy frame at the top. I'm dreaming of pink frills and an absolutely girly bed! It's getting delivered today, but it looks a bit like this one, except with a tall bit at the head for the canopy.

Next stop was a bundle of sewing goodies for me to take home - buttons, little old pinking shears and an old patchworking book.

After the three sales, I was ready to come home (unloading and reloading kids at each garage sale got tiring!), blissfully happy with my 'prizes'! I then had to hurry and make it to the Bristylettes' meeting, ready to share the girls' wonderful new creations, their great company and a nice cup of tea!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Saturday Sweetness

On Saturday I went to my monthly market at St William's Church, Grovely. I love going to this little market - it has such a lovely atmosphere and wonderful sense of community. My boy loves coming to help me out too, it's so nice having a little companion. All the older ladies love him and lavish attention and sweet cake goodies on him - and he's a little piglet so he loves the sweeties!

So, the sales weren't that great at the market, but the community is lovely and I have a nice morning with my boy.

Straight after the market, I came home and started making some vintage button earrings. I was inspired by my friend who's an 'earring girl' and not a 'brooch or ring' girl like me; she despaired to find no earrings for sale at my stall, only brooches and rings ..... So, away I went to make some earrings!
These are made with gorgeous 1950s (I think) buttons that my aunty gave me; pearly lattice encased in black - lovely! (sorry, the photos aren't good - photographing earrings is hard!!)

These ones are made with sweet pink buttons that I picked up at a treasure fair a few months ago.
Not sure what to do with these creations as I don't wear earrings myself and not being an earring girl, I'm not sure if they're good enough to sell. Finally, these lovely blue and cream ones are for my friend - she's a 'blue girl' as well as being an earring fiend - I hope she likes them!

The blue buttons came off a genuine vintage Beutron button card, complete with matching thread (like these at crazyhaberdasher's blog). Just so lovely, I was really reluctant to take them off ... but I have 3 others, and I plan to keep the little card anyway for collaging.
A happy, community Saturday.
